Let's be honest: if you’re inviting two people to shadow you on one of the most intimate, ceremonial days of your life, you should probably know a little bit about who they are. We're Miko and Michael Minnie, a husband-and-wife photography and videography team, and we are so incredibly glad you found your way here.
Our own adventure kicked off sixteen years ago in the charm of a dimly lit, Stellenbosch pub called Bohemia. Back then, Michael was knee-deep in health sciences, while Miko was embracing a creative gap year with her sights firmly set on art school in Cape Town. Our first official date was to a Billy Talent music show—and that loud, electric night set the tone for the rest of our lives.
In the years since, we’ve navigated entirely different seasons of life, growing both individually and as a collaborative team.
Miko’s romance with the visual arts started back in high school, sparked by a deep love for her grandfather’s film camera (which, to this day, is still her absolute go-to for capturing her own family’s raw, unaltered moments). She went on to hone her craft in studio and darkroom printing before joining a Danish company, where she learned the ropes of commercial and editorial photography alongside industry heavyweights. Her camera became a passport, allowing her to travel internationally and document vastly different cultures and life stories.
Michael, meanwhile, eventually came to his senses and realized his heart belonged to the creative world. He traded health sciences for formal training in architecture. Today, his architectural journey spans everything from designing beautiful homes to overseeing massive basketball stadiums in Rwanda. This background gives him a distinct eye for composition; he naturally sees both the grand, breathtaking big picture and the quiet, intimate spaces where true magic happens.
When we aren't behind the lens, our world revolves around our family. We live in Observatory, Cape Town, with our sons Seth & Jedd, our doggo Atlas and the boss kitty of the house, Queen Beans. We absolutely thrive in the vibrant hustle and bustle of this cosmopolitan suburb—it’s the perfect, colourful backdrop for our own unfolding family story.
